The Latrobe Valley is the brown coal and power belt of Victoria, built around Traralgon, Morwell and Moe. Hazelwood closed in 2017 and Yallourn is scheduled to follow, so work has shifted toward health, construction, transmission projects and new energy. Traralgon is the commercial centre and the largest town in Gippsland. Housing is cheap here by Victorian standards and the trade base is deep in industrial skills.
