Claim your business listing
Take over the details, fix what is wrong, set the towns you actually travel to, and get your licence checked. It costs nothing and it stays costing nothing.
Most listings on LocalsKnow were built from public sources before the owner had heard of the site. That gets a directory useful quickly, and it also means some details are out of date the day they are published. Claiming hands the listing to the person who knows the answers.
What claiming gets you, at no cost
- Edit every field: name, description, phone, email, website, address, categories.
- Set opening hours properly, including the ones that differ. New South Wales and Victoria do not share a public holiday calendar and the site handles that.
- Set service areas. This is the one that matters on the border. List the towns you will drive to and the listing appears on those town pages, on both sides of the Murray, without pretending to an address you do not have.
- Add photos, a logo, price band and highlights.
- Reply publicly to reviews.
- Receive enquiries sent through the site, by email, at no charge.
There is no trial period, no card at signup, and no feature on that list that moves behind a paywall later. The paid products sit beside the free tier, not on top of it, and they are described on the about page.
The steps
- Find the listing. Search for the business name. If it is not on the site yet, submit the form below anyway and put the website in the listing URL field. We will build the listing and then hand it to you.
- Send the claim. Use the form below. It takes about two minutes. The contact you give has to be a person who works at the business.
- We match it. The claim is checked against the phone number, the email domain or the ABN already on record. If none of them match, we ring the number published on the listing and ask for you. Usually answered the same day, always within two business days.
- You get edit access. A link comes back by email. From that point the details are yours to change and the page shows the date you last updated them.
- Verification, if it applies. Send a licence number and we run it against the state register, normally within five business days. If it comes back current, the listing is verified.
What verification involves
Verification is a licence check, nothing more and nothing less. You give the licence number, class and issuing state. Somebody here puts that number into the register, records what came back, and stores the register URL along with the date. That date is printed on your listing so a customer can repeat the check themselves.
New South Wales licences are checked against NSW Fair Trading. Victorian plumbing and building registrations are checked against the Victorian Building Authority. A business holding licences in both states can carry both, which is common along the border and invisible on most directories.
If the register does not confirm the number, nothing is published. The listing shows no badge, no note, and no explanation, because a public "failed verification" label would punish businesses for a typo or a register outage. We simply email you and ask you to check the number.
What changes when a listing is verified
| What | Before | After verification |
|---|---|---|
| Verified badge | Not shown | Shown on the listing and on every card in every list |
| Link to your website | rel="nofollow noopener" | rel="noopener", a dofollow link |
| Licence credential in structured data | Absent | Published, with the register named as the issuing body |
| Quality score | Whatever completeness earns | Higher, which lifts the listing in the default order on every page it appears on |
The dofollow link is earned by the check, not by linking back to us and not by paying for it. It switches on at a quality score of 70 on a verified listing, which in practice means a verified licence and a reasonably complete profile. The reasoning is set out on the link partner page, and it is the same reasoning that made us refuse to run a reciprocal link scheme.
How long it takes
- Claim answered: two business days, usually the same day.
- Edit access live: immediately after the claim is matched.
- Licence checked: five business days from receiving the number.
- Badge appears: at the next build after the check passes, which runs nightly.
- Rechecks: at least every six months, and at the licence expiry date.

Claiming, answered
Does claiming a listing cost anything?
No, and it does not become paid later. Claiming, editing every field, adding hours and photos, setting service areas, replying to reviews and receiving enquiries are all on the free tier and stay there. The paid products are enquiry routing for businesses that want quote requests pushed into their own systems, and a multi location dashboard. Neither one changes where a listing sits in a list.
How do I send my logo and photos?
Attach them to the claim form. There is a slot for a logo and three for photos, and PNG, JPEG and WebP all work, plus SVG for a logo. Send them straight off your phone: large images are shrunk on your own device before they are uploaded, so a photo that is five megabytes on the camera roll arrives as a few hundred kilobytes and nothing is sent at full size. The photos go on the listing when the claim is approved, the first one leading the page. They stay yours, we do not sell them or pass them to anyone, and you can ask for any of them to be taken down at any time.
What proof do you need that the business is mine?
We match the claim against something already on record: the phone number on the listing, an email on the same domain as the business website, or the ABN. If none of those line up, we ring the number published on the listing and ask for you by name. We do not ask for identity documents, bank details or a photo of a licence card, and nobody from LocalsKnow will ever request them.
What if the business has no ABN, or I do not know it?
Claim it anyway. The ABN field is optional. It is only used to confirm the trading name against the public ABN register, which speeds the claim up. Community groups, sporting clubs and hobby associations without an ABN are claimed the same way as everyone else.
What does the verified badge actually mean?
It means one specific thing: a licence number on the listing was entered into the relevant state register on the date shown and the register returned it as current. NSW licences are checked against NSW Fair Trading, Victorian plumbing and building registrations against the Victorian Building Authority. It is not a review of the work, a rating, a recommendation or a guarantee. It is a check anyone can repeat, with a link to the register so they can.
How long does verification last, and can I lose it?
The badge holds until the licence expires and is rechecked at least every six months. If a recheck fails, or the licence lapses or is cancelled, the badge comes off and the outbound link goes back to nofollow the same day. Nothing else on the listing changes and nobody is publicly named for it.
