Dog on the Tuckerbox
The Dog on the Tuckerbox pioneer monument stands five miles, or eight kilometres, north of Gundagai just off the Hume Highway. The statue was unveiled on 28 November 1932, honouring the bullock drivers who opened up the country and the dogs that travelled with them, a legend carried further by Jack O'Hagan's song. The precinct today has maintained gardens, Australian animal figurines, picnic areas and parking for cars, caravans and coaches, plus a kiosk and farm shop selling food, coffee, local produce and gifts. The Dog's Birthday is celebrated each November.
