Gold rush streetscapes, courthouses, gaols, homesteads and rail buildings, with the Beechworth precinct largely intact, including the courthouse where Ned Kelly was committed for trial in 1880. Protection runs on two systems: the State Heritage Register under the NSW Heritage Act 1977, and the Victorian Heritage Register under the Heritage Act 2017, with councils adding a Heritage Overlay on the Victorian side. Many sites are volunteer staffed and open limited days.
Gundagai sits above the Murrumbidgee flats because the 1852 flood destroyed the original town on the low ground and killed most of its people. The Dog on the Tuckerbox is five kilometres north and the old timber viaduct still crosses the floodplain. Sheep, cattle and highway service trade support the town now that the Hume runs past it.
Listings are ordered by a quality score built from how complete the profile is, whether the business has claimed it, and whether we have checked a licence against the state register. Paid placement does not move that order, and any promoted slot is boxed and labelled where it appears. How we handle advertising.
