The wire
A listing without opening hours costs you calls you never hear about
The searches that convert are the urgent ones, and the urgent ones filter on open now. A blank hours field takes you out of the running silently.
The most valuable search a local business gets is somebody who needs the thing right now. It is also the search where an incomplete profile costs the most, because the filtering happens before the business ever appears.
What actually happens
Someone searching for a locksmith at 7pm is not comparing five businesses on quality. They are looking for one that is open. Every surface that answers that question, a search engine, a map, a directory, an assistant reading a page out loud, needs structured opening hours to answer it.
A business with no published hours does not appear as closed. It appears as nothing, because the filter has nothing to evaluate. The customer never sees it and the business never learns the call happened.
That is the part worth sitting with: the cost is invisible. There is no missed call in the log. There is no enquiry that went unanswered. There is a decision that was made without you in the room.
Why closed days matter as much as open ones
"Closed Sunday" is worth publishing. It stops a call you were never going to convert, it stops a customer being annoyed at you for not answering, and it makes the rest of the hours believable.
A week with five days filled in and two blank reads as incomplete. A week with five days filled in and two marked closed reads as accurate. They contain the same information and they are not treated the same way by anything reading the page.
Special hours are the other half
Public holidays are the single most common reason published hours are wrong, and on this border they are wrong twice as often, because the two states do not share a calendar. A Wodonga business closed for Melbourne Cup Day and an Albury business open the same day are both correct.
If you close for a holiday, say so on the listing. If you are open when everyone assumes you are shut, say that louder.
What we do with them
Hours on this directory drive three things: the open Saturday counts in the data block on every category page, the structured data that lets a search engine answer an open now question, and the hours table on the listing itself. All three come from the same field and all three are wrong if it is empty.
Every listing shows the date its details were last read. If your hours changed since then, they are wrong on this site right now, and correcting them is free and takes a minute.
