Regional cafe culture in NSW and Victoria has closed most of the gap with the cities, and plenty of country main streets now roast their own or buy from a roaster down the road. The Rock takes its name from Kengal, the granite outcrop in the nature reserve just west of town, which has a walking track to the summit. The town sits on the Olympic Highway and the Wagga to Albury rail line, and plenty of residents drive to Wagga for work. Cropping, contract harvesting and a growing set of rural residential blocks make up the local trade.
