New releases, special orders, second hand stock, school booklists and the local history shelf the chains do not carry. A title that is not on the shelf usually means several days on a truck from a Melbourne or Sydney distributor, so ordering early matters more here than in a capital. The larger shops sit in Albury and Wagga Wagga, and smaller towns often run their books out of a newsagency or a gift shop. The Rock takes its name from Kengal, the granite outcrop in the nature reserve just west of town, which has a walking track to the summit.
